Combining iconic industrial metal with
German expressionist woodblocks.
This branding project was based on creating a collection of items to be mailed to fans who purchased VIP front-row tickets to a concert for the band Rammstein. This package comes with all types of swag merch and necessities to be ready for the band to come to their city, as well as some items
to be enjoyed afterward at home.
I wanted to find a way to incorporate my longstanding love of art history into the band’s preexisting branding. Since they are German-based and have a very dark and rough aesthetic, it felt natural to incorporate the look of the German expressionist movement from the early 20th century.
Rammstein is known for their intense pyrotechnic displays during their live performances, so it only felt right to include a candle (aptly named “Sonne” or Sun) and a lighter with the german for “open fire!” written along the side, which is also the name of one of their songs.
One of the highlighted items gifted in this VIP Package is a “lyric book”. This booklet features full spreads dedicated to songs from all of Rammstein’s albums, combining images from their renowned music video and stage performances alongside classic woodblock works from famous German expressionists such as Käthe Kollwitz, Josef Eberz, and other iconic artists from that movement.
